Ruff Fant, Chairman and Founder
Ruff Fant is Founder and Chairman of TowPath Partners, a Washington, DC based specialty finance company and its predecessor Galway Partners. Collectively, these organizations have acquired more than $1.7 billion in leveraged financial assets. A practicing attorney for more than thirty years, Mr. Fant has substantial experience in federal taxation, corporate transactions, corporate finance, governance, and organizational structure. He was a partner in the Washington office of Sidley & Austin from 1984 until 1995 and served on the firm’s Executive Committee. From 1969 until 1984, Mr. Fant was an associate and then a partner in the DC law firm Cohen & Uretz. He served as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, teaching an advanced course in corporate taxation and ethics in the Graduate Program from 1978-1996.

Mr. Fant graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1966. While at Harvard he was an active member and secretary of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau. Mr. Fant received his undergraduate degree, with honors in English, from Vanderbilt University. At Vanderbilt, Mr. Fant was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa, and served as President of the University’s Honor Council. Mr. Fant served on active duty as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966 through 1969. While in the Marine Corps, he was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal and the American Bar Association Award for Professional Merit. Mr. Fant is a member of the state bar associations of the District of Columbia and state of Mississippi. Mr. Fant also serves as a member of the Management Committee of Columbia Partners, L.L.C., a DC based investment management firm.
